  • Student Information: Name, email, parent email (optional), country/state, module progress, assessment results, surveys, and participation data.

  • Teacher Information: Name, email, and platform activity.

  • School Administrator Information: Name, email, and account management activity.

We do not sell student or school data to third parties.

How We Use Data

Data is used only to:

  • Provide access to The Edge learning platform

  • Track and support student learning progress

  • Generate anonymized insights and reports for schools

  • Improve platform performance and security

We never use student data for advertising.

Compliance and Student Privacy

The Edge complies with major data privacy regulations:

  • FERPA: Student education records are protected, and schools retain ownership of student data.

  • COPPA: We obtain parental or school consent before collecting information from children under 13.

  • GDPR: For users in the EU/EEA, we follow GDPR requirements on consent, access, correction, and deletion of personal data.

  • CCPA: California residents have the right to know, delete, or opt out of data collection.
     

Data Security

We follow industry best practices to protect all personal information:

  • Data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2+).

  • Role-based access control ensures only authorized staff can view sensitive data.

  • Regular audits, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests keep our systems secure.

  • Incident response procedures are in place to notify schools promptly if a breach occurs.
     

Data Retention and Deletion

  • Student data is kept only while a school’s subscription is active.

  • Within 90 days of contract termination, all personal data is securely deleted.

  • Backup data is securely disposed of after three months.
     

Third-Party Services

  • We use secure, SOC 2–compliant providers such as AWS for hosting.

  • Vendors do not access production student data.

  • Any required vendor agreements include strict data protection clauses.
     

Student & Parent Rights

You (or your parent/guardian) may request to:

  • Access your personal information

  • Correct or update your data

  • Request deletion of your data

  • Limit further collection or use
